EA - Why Should I Care?

A Pragmatic Briefing for Senior Executives and Stakeholders

This presentation attempts to provide the fundamentals required to enable senior executives and stakeholders to decide whether to invest any time or money in Investigating Enterprise Architecture and subsequently whether to invest any time or money in becoming more mature in their use of it. It has audio narration and runs automatically.

A decision point is reached after 4 minutes where the audience can decide whether to stop viewing the presentation or continue to the end (another 15 minutes).

Where does PEAF Fit?

This graphic illustrates where PEAF fits with respect to the Enterprise Transformation Stack and with respect to the Pragmatic Enterprise Family of Frameworks.

PEAF recognises that EA is only one part of the Transformation domain and that there are problems in that larger Transformation domain that need addressing. In order to do that we need to define the wider Transformation domain hence (The Pragmatic Enterprise Transformation Framework).

Having defined this wider Transformation domain, we then recognise that PETF needs to be put into context in terms of how the Transformation domain relates to the other domains of the Enterprise hence (The Pragmatic Enterprise Family of Frameworks).

What is PEAF?

PETF PEAF is a vendor and consultancy independent, technology neutral, Enterprise Architecture Framework which allows organisations to kick start or re-start an EA initiative and provides a comprehensive set of Products and Processes of everything required to hit the ground running. It is FREE for use by End-User Organisations, Government Bodies and Academic Institutions.

PEAF bridges the gap between minimal "EA Frameworks" which do not provide a complete set of what is required or huge monolithic “EA Frameworks” that are too difficult to understand and difficult to use.

PEAF achieves this by “Cutting EA to the Bone”, and providing everything you need, and nothing you don’t. PEAF is composed of two fundamental parts; Products and Processes.

The Products section provides all the products required to undertake and sustain an EA initiative split into 4 sections; Foundation, Culture, Model and Governance.

The Processes section provides all the processes required to undertake and sustain and EA initiative split into 3 phases; Prepare, Implement and Operate.

NEWS

Ovum Study finds that PEAF and TOGAF share the top-spot for the EA frameworks that respondents most frequently mention.

Ovum - Hybrid enterprise architecture frameworks are in the majority

According to the study, three enterprise architecture frameworks have gained a reasonable degree of traction in this field, but it should be noted that none can yet be considered to have broad adoption within the overall population, and to provide a complete answer to all requirements. TOGAF, PEAF, and Essential Project are the most frequently mentioned frameworks by respondents. Other frameworks adopted by organizations include DoDAF and the UK equivalent MoDAF, as well as Zachman and FEAF.
