Recommend PEAF?

more

“Yes - Although I have not actively used PEAF because I have been working in public sector environments where larger, more complex EA frameworks are mandated I can see that PEAF would be an extremely useful EA framework for any commericial organisation that is free to choose the EA framework used on the basis of cost effectiveness and speed of implementation. ” - Information Assurance Consultant, Raytheon Systems Ltd, UK, May 2010

How easy it is to use the information in a modelling tool is very important and dependent upon the complexity and volume of the information. Here we compare how easy it is to use the information in the model as its complexity and volume increases.

While complexity and volume is low, the ability to use the information is easier for the Visio based approaches.. The Custom Tool is slightly lower due to the extra complexities of its user interface and the functions available. This is one of the reasons why many Enterprises utilise a Visio based approach. The problem is that very quickly the Visio based approaches become unusable.

Visio/Excel

As the complexity and volume of information increases, the ability to use that information quickly gets worse and worse. Very quickly a point is reached where it is impossible to continue to use the information.

Visio/DB

As with Visio/Excel the ability to use the information reduces to zero quite quickly although the decline is slightly less severe due to the connection with a structured database providing slightly better use.

Custom Tool

As the complexity and volume of information increases, the ability to use the information increases due to more functionality being used such as multi person access and data integration, presentation and dissemination features.
