Here we compare “The Management” and “The Workers” in various ways. Obviously the comparisons shown here will not apply to every Manager and every Worker in every Enterprise. For example, there will be managers who stay at one Enterprise the whole of their life, and there will be Workers that change jobs every two years. It is also accepted that there can be in many cases a blurring between “The Management” and “The Workers”.

This section just highlights the general differences that can exist. Whether they do or not, and to what extent, will depend on each individual Enterprise.

You are invited to create your own depending upon the specifics of your Enterprise.

Personal Motivation

¨      Management

¨      Short term.

¨      Driven by challenge and money.

¨      Know that they will probably not be around when any long term problems they create come to pass, and therefore concentrate solely on today’s problems.

¨      The Workers

¨      Long term.

¨      Driven by stability and money.

¨      Know that they will probably have to deal with any long term problems that are created and therefore try to “head them off at the pass” whenever they can by highlighting them to Management.

Career Outlook

¨      Management

¨      Generally look to move on to a different Enterprise every 2 or 3 years.

¨      They recognise that career development mostly comes from changing Enterprises and not from promotion within an Enterprise.

¨      A move to another Enterprise is seem as an exciting new challenge.

¨      The Workers

¨      Generally look for stability and to stay at one Enterprise for long periods.

¨      Things have to get pretty bad before they do anything about changing Enterprises.

¨      A move to another Enterprise is seen as a worrying and disrupting event.

Financial Motivation

¨      Management

¨      Short Term.

¨      Bonuses based on this year’s achievements and paid almost immediately.

¨      The Workers

¨      Long Term.

¨      Bonuses based on this year’s achievements and usually paid over long periods to avoid the possibility that large numbers of employees will leave after they get their bonus.
