Enterprise Transformation

A Pragmatic Approach Using POET

POET uses the MACE ontology to allow an Enterprise to describe the Structural information of any domain and notes that this information exists at different levels of Idealisation/Realisation.

¨      Methods - How the work should be carried out.

¨      Artefacts - What things the work consumes and produces.

¨      Culture - The people and culture required.

¨      Environment - The tools, technologies, frameworks and locations that are used to perform the work.

It is important to note that Culture sits at the centre. Because - Culture trumps everything™

In fact, in addition to POET defining MACE, POET itself is structured using MACE as are all the Frameworks and Ontologies in PF2.

Whilst it is very useful to have a structure like MACE, to map things to and to make sure that nothing has been missed, it is also important not to lose sight of the fact that these things all need to work together, cooperatively, like an organism, and the story of how that happens is as equally important.

Questions to ponder...

What ontology do you use to completely define the structural elements of your Enterprise?

Are you missing anything?
