Here we see a way of understanding of how the utilisation of
XOET (which is an Enterprises Operating model for Enterprise Transformation,
based on POET) and XEAF (which is an Enterprises Enterprise Architecture
Framework, based on PEAF) plays out when applied to actually doing
While the approach described here is changing the
Transformation domain (or more specifically the EA part of the Transformation
domain) the process described actually is the same for changing any domain,
i.e. create a Physical intermediate state model based on physical current
model, and logical and conceptual Target models. Then use that Physical
intermediate model to determine a plan to change the MACE that exists. This
fundamental approach is detailed in more detail in the Methods section.
So let’s walk through what’s happening with respect to
maturing the EA domain and the part that POET and PEAF play in that.
The centre of the diagram represents the Transformation
capability of an Enterprise, which utilises Transformational information on
the left, and Structural information on the right. It comprises the 6 phases
of Transformation (Strategising, Roadmapping, Initiating, Elaborating,
Constructing and Transitioning) and takes information though 5 levels of
abstraction (Contextual, Conceptual, Logical, Physical, Operational)
culminating in physical changes at the bottom.
Looking at the Enterprises Transformation capability in
the middle, we can model these phases of Transformation at different levels
of abstraction (Contextual, Conceptual, Logical, Physical, Operational), and
for each level of abstraction, we can model the Methods, Artefacts, Culture
and Environment for that phase.
We can now show:
a) How XOET provides the models at the Contextual and
Conceptual levels for all phases of the transformation domain
b) How XEAF provides the logical model for the
Strategising and Roadmapping phases (EA) and,
c) How XEEF provides the logical model for the project
phases of Initiating, Elaborating, Constructing and Transitioning.
We can also see that The Physical model, Operational model
and Physical World levels are Enterprise specific, because this level of
detail is generally different for each Enterprise, but is created by the
Enterprise, under the guidance of the models above them provided by XOET,
XEAF and XEEF.
Finally, we show that the Methods (for each phase) drive
the “How we will Transform”, and the Artefacts (for each phase) drives the
How to model the “Domain to Transform”. The Culture and Environment parts,
provide the (Human and Technical environment used for each phase.
