It is useful to note how other classification schemes have been used to try to describe the transformation of something. The Business Motivation Model (BMM) is a common scheme although it only covers the contextual (pink) level.

¨      Ends (including the Vision and the Desired Result comprising Goals and Objectives) come under the Motivation domain in MAGMA - which is a higher level category including other things like Requirements.

¨      Means (including the Mission and the Course of action comprising Strategy and Tactics) come under the Actions domain in MAGMA - which is a higher level category including other things like Roadmaps, Portfolios and Project Plans. Although Directives (comprising Business Rules and Policy) is also part of the Means domain in BMM, it more correctly comes under the guidance domain in MAGMA.

¨      Assessment (including SWOT and Potential Impact comprising Risk and Potential Reward) come under the Assessment domain in MAGMA - which is a higher level category including other things like Enterprise Debt™ and Pros and Cons.

¨      Influencer (comprising external and internal) comes under the Guidance domain of MAGMA - which is a higher level category including other things such as Values, Principles, Policies and Standards.

Do you use BMM and if not what do you use in its place?

Is there a well-defined structure used for documenting Enterprise Strategy, and if not, what problems is that likely to cause?
